With Christmas upon us, it may have escaped your attention that this year is the 40th Anniversary of the Penlee Lifeboat Disaster.
Our bass player, Simon Wrench, has written a song to commemorate this event and with a little tweak by fellow band members, we have produced a powerful and emotional tribute to the brave souls who perished that night.
The song, “Lights of Mousehole” (St Brendan’s Anthem) is now available for download and streaming but we wanted any revenue earned to go towards an appropriate charitable fund.
We discovered that the families of those lost from both Solomon Browne and Union Star have set up a fundraiser to provide a locally sculpted granite memorial on the cliffs near Lamorna. You’ll find details below…

We thought this was a lovely idea and contacted Martin Brockman on behalf of the families to ask if they were happy with what we wanted to do. They asked if they could hear the song which we duly provided and after an anxious wait received the following response…
“Wow, such a beautifully crafted, sensitive and emotionally charged song and music. How special and thoughtful of the band to compose a piece to commemorate the 40th anniversary and even more generous of them to offer to donate any proceeds to the memorial fund.”
We’re fully aware that the revenue from download and streaming isn’t going to amount to much but we’re hoping that our song will encourage people to donate something more significant on the JustGiving page and hopefully the target will be reached before the 19th December.
