Mrs Chapman’s Boys (Jethro / Arr. S. Cooksey)

A song originally written by Cornish comedian, Jethro, who called the song ‘Cousin Jack’.  As we already had a song in our repertoire with that name, we decided to call it ‘Mrs Chapman’s Boys’ as it is a true tale about Mrs Chapman from St Just whose nine sons all went off to Australia to work in the mines and never returned.

Steve Cooksey once again worked his magic to create an arrangement that would suit the band and when it was ready we asked Jethro if we could perform it for him to see if he was happy with it.  One winter’s evening the whole band descended on Jethro’s (at his request) and sang it to him in his front room.  Needless to say, he loved it and has often been out to watch us perform locally and even joined in on one occasion!
